Tuckingmill questions

How long before I can shower?

We’ll give you the curing time on the day, generally the day after.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you come to Tuckingmill?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Tuckingmill and the rest of Wiltshire. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Tuckingmill.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Shower tray repair in Tuckingmill without replacing anything

The first thing we do is check the tray: if it flexes underfoot, the cause needs sorting before any repair, otherwise any crack returns. We’ll explain what we find. We’re often asked to fix chips on the edges and snagging damage in a new bathroom, in acrylic, stone resin and enamelled steel.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Report any creaking or movement early
  • Rinse away soap after showering
  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach
  • Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner

Rinse the tray after use, clean with mild cleaners, and keep an eye on the sealant so water cannot get underneath.

A small crack lets in a little water every time you shower, which can damage the floor over time. An early repair is far cheaper than floor repairs.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Trays sit under the screen and tiles, so replacing one disturbs a lot around it. Repairing it avoids that disruption. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book.

When to call us in Tuckingmill

Rigid trays do not bend, they crack if the floor beneath them is not flat and fully supported. Movement in a timber floor has the same effect.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Scratches from cleaning or grit
  • A dull, stained or worn surface
  • Chips on the edges
  • Cracks running from the waste

Before you book anyone

  • What preparation is included
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Choosing a repair company

What shower tray repair costs

Repairs from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A wider photo showing the whole shower tray
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Leaking waste fittings
  • A tray that moves underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Enamelled steel
  • Cast iron
  • Stone resin
  • Ceramic
  • Acrylic

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It normally takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First, we check whether the tray moves.
  2. We clean the damage and open it up so the repair can bond.
  3. Cracks are reinforced and the damage filled.
  4. The repair is shaped, colour-matched and finished.
  5. It’s left to cure, usually until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Open a window if you can
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Getting a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Advice

What your shower tray is made of matters

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. Impacts can chip or crack them, and we match the gloss when we repair them.
