About our sink repair in Plain-an-Gwarry

Antique and period basins are worth repairing, and we repair around makers’ marks where we can. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. Our repair technicians work on Belfast and butler sinks, vanity unit basins and enamelled basins, and the jobs we see most are an original basin worth saving and cracks around the tap holes or waste.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A loose basin, until it’s refixed
  • A basin cracked through and leaking
  • Glaze crazing across the entire basin, where resurfacing is better

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Enamelled basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Vanity unit basins

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the basin is cracked right through and leaking, replacement is normally the answer. For chips, surface cracks and crazing, a repair is usually best. Prices start from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking, with no extras added later.

What you get with us

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Store toiletries on a shelf
  • Fittings shouldn’t be over-tightened
  • Avoid abrasive pads
  • Keep straighteners away from the basin

A quick wipe after use helps, and avoid strong bleach or descalers.

Chips collect dirt and stain over time, so the sooner it’s repaired, the better.

How it works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a couple of hours for most chips, including clearing up.

  1. We check the basin is secure and not leaking.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. Filler is built up and sanded flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

How to get a price

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many items we do on one visit

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Plain-an-Gwarry. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the basin, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Different materials, different repairs

Vitreous china

Ceramic basins have a hard, glassy glaze. Matching that shine is the key to a good repair, so we finish the repair to the same sheen.

Period and antique

Older basins may have crazing, chips and makers’ marks. We repair carefully around original features and leave the character intact.
