For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Tile repair in New Town without replacing anything

We repair the tile in place, so you do not need to find a spare. A loose or rocking tile may need relaying first, and we will say so. Whether it’s cracked floor tiles and chips from dropped pans and tools, we can normally put it right, on marble, porcelain tiles and floor and wall tiles alike.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in New Town and across County Durham. Take care with heavy items on repaired tiles, and clean with a pH-neutral cleaner.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Marble
  • Floor and wall tiles
  • Natural stone & granite
  • Porcelain tiles
  • Ceramic tiles

Why repair rather than replace?

Swapping out a damaged tile means breaking it out, tracking down a matching tile and possibly cracking its neighbours. A repair keeps the original tile. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

10 questions to ask before booking

New Town: your questions answered

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we’ll tell you before starting.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

How the visit works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which normally takes a few hours. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We start by cleaning the tile and clearing loose fragments.
  2. The chip, crack or hole is filled.
  3. We shape the repair flush with the tile.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed to suit the tile’s finish.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

What tile repair costs

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • What kind of damage it is

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Quotes from your photos

You can generally get a fixed price without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • The material, if you know it
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire tiled area, we can price the job without visiting.
