How we handle tile repair in Piece

If a tile moves, it may need relaying first, and we will say so. We repair the tile in place, so there is no need to hunt for a matching tile. We work on marble, natural stone & granite and floor and wall tiles, and people most frequently call us about discontinued tiles you can’t replace and chips from dropped pans and tools.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cornwall. Take care with heavy items on repaired tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for Piece. What changes the price is:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Swapping out a damaged tile means breaking it out, finding a match and risking the tiles around it. Repairing it keeps the original tile. Our tile repair starts from £95. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We start by cleaning the tile and clearing loose fragments.
  2. The chip, crack or hole is filled.
  3. The repair is levelled to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. Finally we seal it to match the tile.

How to prepare

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

How to get a price

Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your TR16 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.
