About our tile repair in Reach

A loose or rocking tile may need relaying first, and we will say so. The tile stays where it is, so there is no need to hunt for a matching tile. We are frequently asked to fix discontinued tiles you can’t replace and chips from dropped pans and tools, on floor and wall tiles, marble and natural stone & granite.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Reach and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

The process

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We clean the tile and remove loose fragments.
  2. Next we fill the damage.
  3. We level and shape the repair to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed to suit the tile’s finish.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Common questions in Reach

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Usually, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole tiled area and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

What tile repair costs

Prices start from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Quotes from your pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the tiled area, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Why repair rather than replace?

Swapping out a damaged tile means breaking it out, tracking down a matching tile and risking the tiles around it. Repairing it keeps the original tile. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout
