Worktop repair across Isle of Anglesey: what to expect

The hard part of a worktop repair is matching the pattern. We build up the colour and flecks by hand so the repair blends in. Common call-outs are for chips in quartz or granite and knife marks, on solid surface (such as Corian), laminate and quartz.

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It generally takes a few hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. Next we clean up and prepare the damaged area.
  3. A filler that suits the material goes in, and missing edges are rebuilt.
  4. We match the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Around Holyhead

Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Ysgol Santes Fair, Breakwater Country Park and The Seventy Nine pub and the streets around them. Holyhead has its own railway station: Holyhead station. Further afield, we also cover the area around Caer Gybi (within half a mile north) and Stanley Sailors' Hospital (under half a mile east). Green spaces nearby include Llyn Dinam and South Stack Cliffs RSPB reserve.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Oil wooden tops regularly
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Do not leave spills to soak in
  • Dry around the sink and joints

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, particularly with laminate and timber.

Edge chips can get bigger, and water can reach the core of laminate. Repairing it early stops that.

How the damage happens

Most worktop damage takes a second: a hot pan set straight down, or a heavy pan catching the edge. Scratches build up gradually from knives and grit.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Burns from hot pans
  • A chipped edge
  • Chips caused during installation
  • Damage around the sink cut-out

Honest limits

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • Water-swollen laminate
  • Cracks right through stone that has moved

Different materials, different repairs

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Quartz

Quartz is tough, though edges can chip. Chips are filled with tinted resin and polished.

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
