Worktop repair for Exning homes

Worktop repair in Exning without replacing anything

Each type of worktop needs a different approach: we fill and pattern laminate, fill and polish quartz and stone, and sand and refinish wood. We always aim for a repair that blends in. We’re often asked to fix burns from hot pans and dents and gouges, on laminate, solid surface (such as Corian) and solid wood.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new worktop means taking out the damaged top, templating and fitting a replacement and refitting the sink and hob, and matching the rest of the kitchen can be hard. Repairing the damage keeps your existing worktop. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Exning. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why book with us

  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We assess the damage and the worktop material.
  2. Next we clean up and prepare the damaged area.
  3. A filler that suits the material goes in, and missing edges are rebuilt.
  4. We match the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

What a repair cannot fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Failed support under the worktop
  • Discolouration deep in quartz

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Granite & marble
  • Quartz
  • Solid wood
  • Laminate
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)

Repairs by material

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can often be sanded and refinished.

Wood

Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, with burns and dents put right.

How we price worktop repair

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Something in shot to show the size

Upload pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your CB8 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Clean spills immediately
  • Keep a trivet by the hob
  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Oil wooden tops regularly

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards protect it best.

Do not leave damage by the sink, because water gets in and swells the board.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.
