Worktop repair at your home in Hamnavoe

You don’t need a new worktop because of one mark. The damage is filled and refinished to blend into the surface around it. We work on quartz, solid wood and laminate, and common reasons people get in touch are scratches and knife marks and damage around the sink cut-out.

How it works

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a few hours, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. First, we check the damage and the finish we need to match.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. We recreate the pattern, flecks or grain.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Repairs by material

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can frequently be sanded and refinished.

Granite and stone

Granite and stone chip at edges and cut-outs. The repair is filled and polished to the stone’s finish.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Severe heat marks in quartz
  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed
  • A cracked stone top that is unsupported

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Quartz
  • Laminate
  • Solid wood
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Don’t let water sit on joints

Always use a trivet and chopping board, wipe up spills promptly, and re-oil wooden worktops regularly.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use particularly around the sink. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.

When to call us in Hamnavoe

Worktops take more punishment than anything else in the kitchen. Hot pans leave burns, knives leave scratches, and edges chip when heavy pans or tins hit them.

The things customers normally mention when they call include:

  • Damage around the sink cut-out
  • Burns from hot pans
  • Gouges in the surface
  • Snagging damage in a new kitchen

10 questions to ask before you book

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a worktop means taking out the damaged top, cutting and fitting a new one and refitting the sink and hob, and it may not match the rest of the kitchen. A repair leaves the worktop in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why Hamnavoe customers choose us

  • One visit for most repairs
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Your questions about worktop repair in Hamnavoe

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you come to Hamnavoe?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Hamnavoe and the rest of the Shetland Islands. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Do I need to empty the worktop?

Only around the repair. You can generally still use the rest of the kitchen.

What affects the price in Hamnavoe

Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Access to the area

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone photos are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • One picture of the whole worktop
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Send us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your ZE2 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
