Different materials, different repairs

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated by hand.

Quartz

Quartz worktops are mostly stone set in resin. Edge chips are very common, and we fill and polish them to match the sheen.

Worktop repair in Sound without replacing anything

Pan burns, chipped edges and knife scratches are the most common worktop repairs. All are repaired in place. Whether it’s damage around the sink cut-out and damage from fitting or building work, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Sound and across the Shetland Islands.

Questions from Sound

Can a scorch mark be fixed?

Generally, yes. The burn is cut back, filled and patterned to match.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Do you cover the whole of the Shetland Islands?

Everywhere in the UK, Sound included. Travel is included in the price.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, a repair is the better value. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Don’t let water sit on joints
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Oil wooden tops regularly

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards protect it best.

Damage near the sink is worth repairing quickly, as water can get in and cause swelling.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How we price worktop repair

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Sound. The price comes down to:

  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Sound. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the entire worktop
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole worktop, we can price the job without visiting.

How it works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job typically takes a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the worktop, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Sound as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it typically costs far less than a refit.
