Different materials, different repairs

Laminate

A laminate worktop is a thin decorative layer on a board. Damage is filled and the pattern painted in by hand.

Quartz

Quartz is hard, but its edges are brittle. We fill chips with a tinted resin and polish them.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Keep wood oiled
  • Keep joints and edges dry

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, particularly with laminate and timber.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.

Should you replace it?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, a repair is the better value. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

FAQs for Hotwells

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Will the repair match a patterned worktop?

Yes. We recreate the pattern by hand so it blends in.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can you repair a burn in a worktop?

In most cases. A picture lets us check what’s possible.

How do I get a price for worktop repair in Hotwells?

Repairs from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your BS8 postcode.

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. We fill the damage with a suitable filler and build up any lost edge.
  4. The colour and pattern are matched by hand.
  5. The surface is sealed or finished to suit the worktop.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Ask for a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole worktop, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.
