Worktop repair in Tang

The process

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. Burnt or loose material is cut back.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Advice

Worktop repair at your home in Tang

Different worktops need different repairs: laminate is filled and patterned, quartz and stone are filled and polished, and wood is sanded and refinished. The goal is always a repair that blends in. We regularly repair solid surface (such as Corian), quartz and solid wood, and the jobs we see most are chips caused during installation and damage to a stone worktop.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Wipe up spills quickly
  • Keep joints and edges dry
  • Avoid harsh chemicals on stone and quartz

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Even stone and quartz can be marked by heat.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Tang use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in North Yorkshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

What your worktop is made of matters

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. We fill the damage and recreate the pattern by hand.

Solid surface

Solid surface materials are uniform throughout, so marks can often be sanded and refinished.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material and finish
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Through cracks in stone that is moving
  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.
