About our bath re-enamelling in Antony

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Common call-outs are for several chips and rust patches and an old resurfacing that’s failing, in pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Antony and across Cornwall.

Antony: your questions answered

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, and that includes Antony. Prices do not change with location.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long is the bath unusable?

Typically one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it typically saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You will get a fixed quote back, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Should you replace it?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
