About our bath re-enamelling in Arden

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Arden and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When to call us in Arden

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

Questions to ask before booking

  • Who turns up on the day
  • How the colour is matched
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Aftercare advice

Choosing a repair company

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing typically wins. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

What affects the price in Arden

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material
  • How many areas need work
  • How easy the damage is to reach

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. It helps if you send:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A picture taken from further back
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any details about the material

To get a price, send a couple of pictures through our quote form or call us. We will say right away whether it can be repaired.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Arden

How long does re-enamelling last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can you price it without visiting?

Typically, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

How do I book?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
