What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

About our bath re-enamelling in Askham Bryan

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we do not cut corners on it. If you are dealing with a roll-top that’s seen better days and worn patches where water runs and sits, we can typically put it right, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Askham Bryan. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Store bottles off the bath

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. It normally takes the best part of a day, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
