How we handle bath re-enamelling in Boreland

We do not move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Typical jobs include worn patches where water runs and sits and several chips and rust patches, across pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which typically takes a full day. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Advice

When we would advise against a repair

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Boreland

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Common problems we fix in Boreland

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

People generally call us after spotting one of these:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

Before booking anyone

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Aftercare advice
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Our hiring checklist

Repair or replace in Boreland?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Colour-matched on site
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Questions from Boreland

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The material, if you know it
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Landlord and trade work in Boreland

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
