How we handle bath re-enamelling in California

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the whole bath is tired rather than one spot. Typical jobs include a peeling or bubbling previous coating and thin, worn enamel in places, across cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

For landlords and businesses

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, photos and access details and we will handle the rest.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Repair or replace in California?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Why book with us

  • Work done at your home or business
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • We leave the room as we found it

Read our pricing or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Common questions in California

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote. There is no obligation to book.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Honest limits

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How to care for the repair

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

What affects the price in California

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including California. The price reflects:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material and finish
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

You can usually get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.
