Bath re-enamelling for Cargo homes

Bath re-enamelling in Cargo, done in place

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Whether it’s a roll-top that’s seen better days and lots of chips and rust spots, we can normally put it right.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

When a repair is not the answer

  • Steel that has corroded right through

  • A bath split right through the body

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Common questions in Cargo

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Cargo. The price reflects:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send photos for a quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any details about the material
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back

If you are in Cargo and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

What happens on the day

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Repair or replace in Cargo?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Cargo?

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Look out for these signs:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Stains that will not shift
