Trusted worktop repair in Cargo

Worktop repair in Cargo, done in place

You do not need a new worktop because of one mark. The damage is filled and refinished to blend into the surface around it. We regularly repair solid wood, granite & marble and solid surface (such as Corian), and people most frequently call us about a dent from a dropped pan and damage to a stone worktop.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

Repairing versus replacing in Cargo

A new worktop means taking out the damaged top, templating and fitting a replacement and reconnecting the sink and hob, and matching the rest of the kitchen can be hard. A repair leaves the worktop in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why Cargo clients choose us

  • Most jobs done in one visit

Common questions in Cargo

Do you work in Cargo?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Cargo. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you repair a burn in a worktop?

In most cases. Send us a photo and we will tell you.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Which areas do you work in?

Across the UK, and that includes Cargo. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a morning or an afternoon. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First, we check the damage and the finish we need to match.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. The area is filled and shaped.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. We finish it to match the sheen and leave it to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

What affects the price in Cargo

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Cargo. What changes the price is:

  • Access to the area
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

How to get a fixed price

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material
  • A wider photo showing the whole worktop
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What a repair cannot fix

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Severe heat marks in quartz
  • A top that moves on its units
  • A cracked stone top that is unsupported

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Solid wood
  • Quartz
  • Laminate
  • Granite & marble
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Always use a trivet for hot pans
  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Do not knock pans against the edge

Hot pans should always go on a trivet. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.
