Carnetown questions

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

How long is the bath unusable?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

About our bath re-enamelling in Carnetown

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Whether it’s thin, worn enamel in places and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can typically put it right.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What we do, step by step

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Carnetown. The price comes down to:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Any details about the material

Upload photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Carnetown, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Nothing else is disturbed. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
