Repairing versus replacing in Charing
A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

About our bath re-enamelling in Charing
If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We are frequently asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and lots of chips and rust spots, on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Can I fix it myself?
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
When to call us in Charing
Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
- Stains that won’t shift
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
- Thin, worn enamel in places
Before booking anyone
- Whether the price covers travel
- What protection goes down before work starts
- What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
- How long it needs to cure
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed:
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.
Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
When we would advise against a repair
A repair is not right for every job, for example:
- Holes rusted through the metal
- A metal bath with a through crack
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we work on
- Cast iron baths
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
Work for landlords and builders
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
If you manage property in Charing, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
What we do, step by step
We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take the best part of a day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
- Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
- Let the surface dry out before the visit
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
