Bath re-enamelling in Cockden

Bath re-enamelling in Cockden without replacing anything

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Upload photos of the damage and one of the entire item, with your BB10 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Cockden?

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is normally as strong as ever.

Most people contact us when they notice one of these:

  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

What to look for in a quote

  • Who will actually do the work
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • What preparation is included
  • How the colour is matched

How to compare quotes

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Cockden questions

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes most of the day in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Landlords, agents and businesses in Cockden

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
