Bath re-enamelling in Come-to-Good

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

About our bath re-enamelling in Come-to-Good

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We work on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people contact us are thin, worn enamel in places and a coating lifting around the plughole.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

How to care for the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

How to get a fixed price

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

When a repair is not the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Come-to-Good: your questions answered

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Do you cover the whole of Cornwall?

All of Cornwall, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the next day. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Come-to-Good. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Common problems we fix in Come-to-Good

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A coloured bath you want in white

How to compare quotes

How the visit works

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
