About our bath re-enamelling in Crymych

We don’t move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. It usually takes one visit, and can be used again the following day. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a coating lifting around the plughole.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes a full day. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day, with the bath back in use the day after. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

  • Colour-matched on site
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

Common problems we fix in Crymych

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Our hiring checklist

Crymych: your questions answered

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • How much damage there is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material and finish

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Details of any past repairs
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Natural light rather than flash

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
