A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Typical jobs include thin, worn enamel in places and a coloured bath you want in white, in basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Ellingham and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Ellingham: your questions answered

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

What happens after I send pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, normally with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around Ellingham, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Ellingham. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why book with us

  • No need to remove anything
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • One price list for the whole UK

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Respect the curing time we give you

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

What we are called out for in Ellingham

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What preparation is included
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
