Bath re-enamelling for Fairlie homes

Bath re-enamelling in Fairlie, done in place

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, and we take our time over it. We are frequently asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and chips and rust in more than one place, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

What we can’t put right

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Common problems we fix in Fairlie

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Stains that will not shift

Choosing a repair company

Landlords, agents and businesses in Fairlie

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Common questions in Fairlie

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. If photos do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Do you cover the entire of North Ayrshire?

The whole UK, including all of North Ayrshire. Send your postcode with your pictures and we will confirm dates.

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a full day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Should you replace it?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
