How we handle bath re-enamelling in Foundry

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our repair technicians work on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people contact us are wear marks under the taps and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Foundry as everywhere else we work.

When we would advise against a repair

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath that’s rusted through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There is no area surcharge for Foundry. What changes the price is:

  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed price

Phone pictures are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Common questions in Foundry

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Usually, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the entire UK, including Foundry and the rest of Cornwall. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What we do, step by step

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take a full day, including clearing up.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.
