How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hey

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, we can typically put it right.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Lancashire.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

What we cannot put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Hey. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Landlord and trade work in Hey

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

If you manage property in Hey, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

How it works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Related advice

Hey: your questions answered

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Will the new finish last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of Lancashire. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll offer you dates.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Typically, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Respect the curing time we give you

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
