Bath re-enamelling near Hillhead

Hillhead: your questions answered

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Do you cover the entire of Cornwall?

All of Cornwall, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hillhead

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Common call-outs are for a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and worn patches where water runs and sits, across basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Hillhead?

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is normally as strong as ever.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing

Questions to ask before booking

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Choosing a repair company

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why us?

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Cornwall and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the day after.
