Bath re-enamelling in Porcupine

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Bath re-enamelling in Porcupine, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. If you are dealing with a coloured bath you want in white and staining under the taps and around the waste, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays alike.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Porcupine as everywhere else we work.

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • No need to remove anything
  • No extra charge for your area
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, including clearing up.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the following day.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

How to get a price

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Porcupine

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

How long does re-enamelling take?

One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We will confirm timings when we quote.

What we are called out for in Porcupine

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That’s the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How long it needs to cure
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long

What we can’t put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Repair dripping taps early

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.
