Bath re-enamelling in Hilton

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Hilton

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Do you work in Hilton?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Hilton and the rest of Cumbria. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

How long does re-enamelling last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Will the price change on the day?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Can you quote from photos?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hilton

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. If you are dealing with a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a coloured bath you want in white, we can help, on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays alike.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

When to call us in Hilton

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day, with the bath back in use the next day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How easy the damage is to reach

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed quote the same day in most cases.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for the best part of a day from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Open a window if you can
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
