Bath re-enamelling in Holywell

Holywell: your questions answered

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Do you cover the entire of Greater London?

Everywhere in the UK, Holywell included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Bath re-enamelling in Holywell without replacing anything

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. We’re often asked to fix brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, across Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Holywell as everywhere else we work.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Repair dripping taps early

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

Advice

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There is no area surcharge for Holywell. What changes the price is:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

You can take the photos on your phone. Just make sure we can see:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can give you a fixed price.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

What we’re called out for in Holywell

Enamel wears gradually. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths dull the surface, normally first under the taps and around the waste.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Several chips and rust patches
