Bath re-enamelling near Irby Hill

About our bath re-enamelling in Irby Hill

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Typical jobs include an outdated colour you’d like to change and stains that won’t shift, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. Allow the best part of a day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the whole room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Irby Hill. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why us?

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide

Take a look at our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Getting a price from pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed price.

What we can’t put right

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
