Bath re-enamelling near Jock's Lodge

Repairing versus replacing in Jock's Lodge

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why us?

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Fixed prices from your photos

Bath re-enamelling in Jock's Lodge without replacing anything

We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are frequently asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and lots of chips and rust spots, in Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will sort it.

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Open a window if you can

Advice

Common questions in Jock's Lodge

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Jock's Lodge?

Resurfacing from £350. We give a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up and a photo of the whole item and your postcode.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

What affects the price in Jock's Lodge

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Jock's Lodge. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Natural light rather than flash

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Jock's Lodge

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

For anyone letting property in or around Jock's Lodge, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.
