Bath re-enamelling near Kesgrave

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Bath re-enamelling in Kesgrave, done in place

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. If you are dealing with several chips and rust patches and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, we can help, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays alike.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

When we’d advise against a repair

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Kesgrave: your questions answered

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Kesgrave included. Travel is included in the price.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we’ll plan for it.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. We protect the area first, then the work takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The type of damage
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a bath usually involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
