Bath re-enamelling for Langford homes

About our bath re-enamelling in Langford

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and worn patches where water runs and sits.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Repairing versus replacing in Langford

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Langford: your questions answered

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

How long does re-enamelling last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Are there extra charges for Langford?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

How to care for the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

The process

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

What we’re called out for in Langford

Often the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Most people contact us when they notice something like this:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Stains that will not shift
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Several chips and rust patches
