Bath re-enamelling in Larkton without replacing anything

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, and we take our time over it. We work on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are a roll-top that’s seen better days and worn patches where water runs and sits.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear the area around the damage

Larkton questions

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
