Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Bath re-enamelling in Leagreen, done in place

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We are often asked to fix worn patches where water runs and sits and an old resurfacing that’s failing, across pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

When we would advise against a repair

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for most of the day from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Questions from Leagreen

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Hampshire, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Will the bath be moved?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Leagreen

Enamel wears gradually. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

What your quote should include

  • Who turns up on the day
  • How soon you can use it again
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How to care for the finish

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to Leagreen. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material
  • Details of any past repairs

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Repairing versus replacing in Leagreen

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
