About our bath re-enamelling in Lightwater

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Whether it’s a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, we can help.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Lightwater. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • How much damage there is
  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

How to get a fixed price

You can typically get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Where you are, by postcode

Email us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your GU18 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Common questions in Lightwater

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Surrey, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

What we cannot put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Store bottles off the bath

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Prices start from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How it works

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes a full day for most jobs. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the following day.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

What we’re called out for in Lightwater

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

What your quote should include

  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • How the colour is matched
