Need bath re-enamelling in Longside?

Repair or replace: which is better?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Longside

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. If you are dealing with enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What affects the price in Longside

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material and finish

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from photos

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Where you are, by postcode

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Longside questions

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.

Will the new finish last?

Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What we do, step by step

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which typically takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Honest limits

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse off any bath products.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
