FAQs for Lordington

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, frequently. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Bath re-enamelling in Lordington, done in place

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We regularly repair cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a coloured bath you want in white.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

When to call us in Lordington

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, and only the surface is worn. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

Before booking anyone

How to compare quotes

Repair or replace in Lordington?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send pictures for a quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any details about the material
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. Most visits take most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

What a repair cannot fix

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
