How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Lower Clicker

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Lower Clicker as everywhere else we work.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

If you manage property in Lower Clicker, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Lower Clicker questions

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Typically, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether we combine several jobs

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Lower Clicker

Older baths frequently have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

What to look for in a quote

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
