Bath re-enamelling in Lower Hamswell

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Lower Hamswell

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Common call-outs are for stains that won’t shift and a roll-top that’s seen better days, in Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

What happens on the day

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

What a repair can’t fix

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath split right through the body

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Should you replace it?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Everything repaired in place

Take a look at our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Access to the area

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • The material, if you know it
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.
