Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Bath re-enamelling in Luccombe without replacing anything

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We are often asked to fix an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a coating lifting around the plughole, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Luccombe. The price depends on:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Access to the area
  • What kind of damage it is

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from photos

You can normally get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Something in shot to show the size

Upload a photo of the damage and one of the entire item, with your TA24 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Repair dripping taps early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Luccombe

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Several chips and rust patches

How the visit works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

How to get a price

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Advice

Repairing versus replacing in Luccombe

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
