Bath re-enamelling near Lumley Thicks

Bath re-enamelling in Lumley Thicks without replacing anything

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a coating lifting around the plughole.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How it works

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Lumley Thicks. The price depends on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What the surface is made of
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Unusual colours or finishes

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Lumley Thicks questions

Are there extra charges for Lumley Thicks?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Sunderland.

Do you work in Lumley Thicks?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Lumley Thicks and the rest of Sunderland. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and normally a day, with the bath back in use the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why us?

  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • One visit for most repairs

See our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Have chips seen to early

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

When to call us in Lumley Thicks

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Stains that will not shift
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

Questions to ask before you book

  • When it can be used again
  • How to care for the finish
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Our hiring checklist

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
