Bath re-enamelling near Merton

What affects the price in Merton

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Merton. What changes the price is:

  • The material
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The type of damage

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Most clients in Merton get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

About our bath re-enamelling in Merton

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. We’re often asked to fix several chips and rust patches and thin, worn enamel in places, in basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

10 questions to ask before booking

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Repairing versus replacing in Merton

Replacing a bath usually involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Merton clients choose us

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear the area around the damage

How to care for the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Merton

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Merton?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.
