Bath re-enamelling in Mill End

Bath re-enamelling in Mill End, done in place

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Typical jobs include several chips and rust patches and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, in pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

When to call us in Mill End

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Mill End use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A photo taken from further back

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Mill End

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

What we do, step by step

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Have chips seen to early

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
