How we handle bath re-enamelling in Monkhams

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Our repair technicians work on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are stains that won’t shift and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Monkhams. What changes the price is:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The type of damage
  • The size and number of damaged areas

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A photo taken from further back

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repairing versus replacing in Monkhams

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • No need to remove anything
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

When to call us in Monkhams

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

Look out for these signs:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

What your quote should include

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How your room will be protected
  • What aftercare is recommended

10 questions to ask before you book

How to care for the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

When we would advise against a repair

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Common questions in Monkhams

Are there extra charges for Monkhams?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole UK, including Monkhams and the rest of Greater London. Send your postcode with your photos and we’ll offer you dates.

Can you quote from photos?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Will the bath be moved?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
