When a repair isn’t the answer

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Mythop

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. If you are dealing with a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can help, whatever the material.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Mythop

Will there be fumes?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Do you come to Mythop?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Mythop. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. There’s no obligation to book.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

How long is the bath unusable?

One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We will confirm timings when we quote.

What we are called out for in Mythop

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Mythop. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why us?

  • Work done at your home or business
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Access to the area
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send photos for a quote

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Mythop use us as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

What happens on the day

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
