About our bath re-enamelling in Newmachar

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we do not cut corners on it. We are frequently asked to fix worn patches where water runs and sits and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, in Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

How to care for the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.

Repairing versus replacing in Newmachar

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Why book with us

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

What happens on the day

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes the best part of a day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Questions from Newmachar

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You will get a fixed quote back, normally with dates to choose from. You’re under no obligation.

Can you price it without visiting?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Do you cover the entire of Aberdeen?

Across the UK. Prices don’t change with location.

Do you come to Newmachar?

We do. We send a technician to Newmachar for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

What we are called out for in Newmachar

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is typically perfectly sound.

The things customers generally mention when they call include:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • When it can be used again
  • How the room is protected while they work
