Bath re-enamelling for North Shore homes

About our bath re-enamelling in North Shore

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Common call-outs are for thin, worn enamel in places and staining under the taps and around the waste, on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in North Shore

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit normally costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Do you cover North Shore?

We do. We send a technician to North Shore for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in North Shore

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Repair or replace in North Shore?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

What we are called out for in North Shore

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

What your quote should include

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How soon you can use it again
  • How to look after the finish
  • How the room is protected while they work
